Serenity Envelopes A $5 Million Contemporary In Austin’s Tarrytown

Music-centric Austin, Texas, is abuzz with live music on the lawn, open-air concerts and blues on the green. But the bustling state capital of Texas is also home to quiet residential neighborhoods set amid an abundance of greenery.

Emblematic of those communities is well-established Tarrytown, characterized by homes in a wide range of architectural styles set on tranquil tree-shaded streets. Perks of the desirable central Austin neighborhood, says Diane Humphreys of Moreland Properties, include “great schools, neighborhood parks and easy access to Lady Bird Lake and downtown.”

Among homes on the market in Tarrytown is Humphreys’ $5 million listing at 2107 Bridle Path, a clean-lined contemporary built in 2004 and designed by Austin-based Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects. Entered through a gated central courtyard, the serene home is surrounded by oak trees and lush greenery.

A mix of white walls and light-toned yellow brick unites the exterior and interior spaces. The warm brick on the façade gives way to pathways and arched doorways as it continues inside on accent walls and in the family room.

Clerestory windows and glass doors bring light into the high-ceilinged living and dining rooms, where a sleek modern fireplace takes center stage. The tall walls create gallery-like space for displaying artwork.

An oversized center island topped with quartz anchors the kitchen and creates additional food prep and eating space. White cabinets play off black countertops and backsplashes while double-height windows reveal splashes of color with views of mature oak trees.

The cozy family room has a brick fireplace, an adjacent bar area and access to such outdoor living areas as a dining patio.

Upstairs are the primary suite, another living area and additional bedrooms for a total of four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a powder room within the nearly 4,800 square feet of interiors. The third floor contains a treetop office.

The backyard features a swimming pool and a covered deck with a large seating area, room to grill and an outdoor fireplace.

“The house would be great for a family,” Humphreys says, “but it also works for empty nesters.”

Austin housing market data from Moreland Properties shows a current uptick in the number of active listings.

“It’s still a competitive market,” she says, “but there is more inventory, and some stabilization in pricing.”
