A Michigan mom was fatally struck by an out-of-control vehicle while heroically saving her two-year-old daughter’s life at a drag racing event on Sunday.
Kadie Price, 33, was in the crowd with her family when a 1980 Jeep CJ lost control and veered off the racing strip before slamming into another vehicle, police said.
The other vehicle, which had been stationary at the time of impact, struck Price as a result — just seconds after she had pushed her daughter to safety. 3 A Michigan mom was fatally struck by an out-of-control vehicle while heroically saving her two-year-old daughter’s life at a drag racing event on Sunday. Chaos ensued at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes in western Oceana County — about 270 miles northwest of Detroit, MLive.com reported.
Despite several people rushing over to offer immediate care to Price, including Silver Lake State Park rangers, they were ultimately unable to save her.
Price was pronounced dead shortly after she was struck just before midday.
Her daughter was able to avoid “serious injury or worse,” police said, as a result of her mom’s quick-thinking.
“Please keep the Price family in your prayers,” the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. 3 A 1980 Jeep CJ lost control and veered off the racing strip before slamming into another vehicle, police said. WOOD TV8
The driver of the Jeep is being identified as a 64-year-old man who hails from Michigan. His name is not being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
Two off-roaders who took part in Sunday’s race have since detailed the horrific incident.
“I’ve been coming out here a long time,” Bryce Straubel told WOOD. “That was probably one of them most brutal accidents I’ve ever seen.” 3 The drag racing event took place at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes in western Oceana County — about 270 miles northwest of Detroit. WOOD TV8
“It breaks me,” Straubel added. “People are coming out here to have a good time and this mother just lost her life. She pushed her daughter out of the way to save her — it’s just rough to hear. It really is.”
The Silver Lake State Park is a 3,000-acre park runs along the shorelines of Lake Michigan. It contained about 2,000 acres of san dunes.
