A ship heading for the Suez Canal was hit by a missile on Tuesday, marking the second successive day that a vessel in the waters off Yemen has suffered damage despite bombing raids by the US and UK intended to end the threat.
The UK’s Maritime Trade Operations said they had received a report of “an incident” in the southern Red Sea, 100 nautical miles north-east of Saleef, Yemen.
Vanguard, a maritime security service, identified the vessel involved as the Zografia, a Malta-flagged dry bulk carrier. Ambrey Intelligence, another maritime security service, said that the vessel had been hit by a missile.
The attack followed a missile strike on Monday on the Gibraltar Eagle, another bulk carrier, in the Gulf of Aden.
